Colourful is the new black
Maillards Funeral Directors – Jersey’s only family-owned funeral directors has teamed up with its partner company, Curwoods Limousines to introduce Jersey’s first colourful hearse. The new colourful hearse has been conceptualised by William Worthy, a 13-year-old student from Victoria College following ‘Colourful is the New Black’ – a community competition which launched in 2020 to seek concepts from the Jersey community. William’s meaningful ‘tree of life’ concept was chosen against more than fifty designs submitted by both professional and amateur artists.
Mark Reynolds, CEO at Elme Group (which owns Maillards Funeral Directors) said:
“The idea of creating a colourful hearse was born from many families requesting an alternative to our black vehicles. Maillards has been at the heart of the community and a local company since its inception 93 years ago, so it was important that our new hearse involved the community. To re-design a hearse it takes meticulous planning and application so after fifteen months I am delighted to see it completed. We hope our colourful hearse is a welcome option for many families”.
Colourful is the New Black forms part of the Maillards Celebrating Life initiative – a series of community- led projects recognising the importance of being able to celebrate life. As a Jersey and family-owned business, the Elme Group has always been passionate about giving back to the beautiful Island of Jersey.
